Recruiters are trained to sell. These questions get you past the pitch.
The work
- What does a typical week look like on this account: start time, miles, stops?
- Is it live load or drop and hook? Any touch freight or hand unloading?
- Will I have my own truck, or slip seat?
- Is it forced dispatch?
The pay
- What is the average weekly pay of drivers on this account, and what does a driver in the first 90 days usually make?
- How are miles counted: practical or shortest route?
- What is paid besides driving: detention, layover, breakdowns, orientation?
- How is the sign-on bonus paid out, and what happens to it if I leave?
Home time
- What is the real home time, and how often do drivers get it on schedule?
- Where can I park my truck when I am home?
The fine print
- What exactly disqualifies a driver for this job: tickets, accidents, DUI, job history?
- Who pays for travel, hotel and the drug test at orientation?
- What happens if the job is not what you described?
- What is the turnover on this account?
- Is there anything about this job I will not like?
